The assailants stormed the house of Rana at Ramnagar-3 and abducted him on July 23. His dead body was found at a sugarcane farm on the bank of the Khajuriya River in Hattilet village on July 24-evening. A group claiming to be affiliated with the Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (Rajan Mukti group) telephoned a local journalist and claimed that it has taken action against Rana because of his support for the rulers of the hills.
