Hindustan Times reports that a Pakistani infiltrator was killed by the Border Security Force (BSF) on the intervening night of February 23-24 after a brief encounter at Khemkaran sector in Tarn Taran District of Punjab on the India-Pakistan border. However, two of his accomplices managed to escape. The operation led to the recovery of drugs, arms, ammunition and fake Indian currency notes (FICN). Around 13 kg heroin worth INR 65 crore in the international market, one pistol, 10 live cartridges, 2 magazines, FICN of INR 500,000 and 1 kilogram opium were recovered after the encounter. This year the BSF has so far seized 66 kilograms of heroin, FICN of Rs 17 lakh, nine pistols and ammunition, officials said.
