A hardcore Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre, identified as Maran Piyusika, was arrested by the Police in Gunupur area of Rayagada District of Odisha on August 19, reports The Hindu. Maran hailed from Bakaguda village of Hanumanthpur panchayat (village level local self-Government institution) under Chandrapur Police Station limits. Several non-bailable warrants related to Maoist activity were pending against him in different Police Stations of Rayagada District. According to Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), B.K. Panigrahi, he was part of the Maoist outfit since past nine years and was also involved in cases of murder, including murder of J. Jagaranga at Luhagumi village under Gudari Police Station limits in August 2007.
