Commenting on the operation a Senior State Police Official said the operation has been intensified in the Southern Districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal and Rayagada. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) (Southern Range) RK Sharma said "Around 300 personnel, including Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF), Special Operation Group (SOG), District Voluntary Force (DVF) and local Police were involved in the operation," reports The Times of India on November 17. As many as 86 of Panda's loyalists have either surrendered or have been arrested by Police in Ganjam, Gajapati and Kandhamal Districts in the last three years, this apart, 14 of his associates have been killed, including five in the recent encounter at Bhaliagada in Gajapati District's Mohana Police station area.
