According to the Police, the arrested criminals were part of the gang, which abducted a Guwahati city based businessman, Rajib Sharma when he had gone to Byrnihat in Meghalaya on February 1. Later, the family of the businessman received a call on January 3 by suspected National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) militants asking for a ransom of INR 10 million for the trader s release. Sources in the crime branch said of the eight arrested so far, Madhu Boro is suspected to be an NDFB member. The other arrested persons have been identified as Sobiram Basumatary and his wife Mahima Rabha Sachi, Rajkumar, Shiman Basumatary, Raju Boro, Rahul Basumatary and Pranjoy Mushahary.
