Veedhi and set ablaze a tractor at Chintapalli in Visakhapatnam District, reports The Hindu. Maoists assaulted Congress leader K. Somalingam Padal and burnt a motorcycle belonging to Satyanarayana, an employee of the coffee plantation, at Pedavalasa of G.K. Veedhi mandal (administrative unit). The same night, a tractor hired by the AP Forest Development Corporation was burnt to ashes by the Maoists at Charlapalli village of Chintapalli mandal. The target of the Maoists was Congress leader V. Anand at Pedavalasa but when they could not find him, they attacked Somalingam Padal. The attack against the Congress leaders was to show their anger and resentment against their support to the Police for establishing a Police Station and for providing food and shelter, according to G.K. Veedhi Inspector G. Rambabu. Padal s wife had contested the recent Panchayat (local body) elections in the agency area against the diktat issued by the Maoists.
