The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres axed a Police trooper, identified as Lalsu Pungati and then shot him dead from close range in a weekly market in Gyrapatti village in Korchi tehsil (revenue unit) of Gadchiroli District on April 27, reports The Times of India. The Maoist then fled with the weapon of the trooper. Pungati was on a routine patrol in the market with other Police personnel. The Maoists suddenly attacked Pungati with an axe while he was away from his companions. They heaved two blows on his neck from behind and then struck again on his ribs. As Pungati fell down, they shot eight bullets from close range to kill him.
